Machine Gun Type 96

The Machine Gun Type 96 was a 6.5mm calibre hand-held machine gun developed in 1936 and used by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. It was a very popular and reliable weapon, somewhat similar to the British Bren machine gun. Following the introduction of the 7.7mm Arisaka Type 99 rifle into the Japanese Army, the Type 99 was developed in 1939, but the Type 96 remained in the armament of the Japanese Army until the end of the war.
